What would you do for free, even if no one paid you to do it?
In my recent posts, I mentioned that I’m living my life’s purpose.
You may ask, how do I know?
I am energized when coaching my clients and seeing them grow. The part of my business that gives me the most joy is leading life-changing beach retreats for women. It’s amazing to see the transformations over the course of three days. Read the testimonials here https://katherinebock.com/testimonials/
The question I asked when I decided to leave the traditional corporate world was: “What would I do for free? What would I do even if I didn’t get paid to do it?”
In reflecting on my career, the part I enjoyed the most was identifying the strengths of the people working with me and then using those unique combinations to build high performing teams. The higher I went up the ladder, the less time I got to spend doing that.
I’ve always been intrigued by the job search process beginning with my job search after law school. After taking the bar the bar exam, I went to the public library and checked out a book titled, How to Sell Yourself Into the Right Job and followed the step-by-step process and ended up with five interviews and two job offers. If the proof is in the pudding, the pudding was rich and tasty.
Through the years, I shared what I had learned with friends and relatives. We always started with their strengths and skills and what they really, really, really wanted in a job or career.
When I answered the question as to what I would do for free, it was helping others with “selling themselves into the right job” and I transitioned to outplacement consulting. I was a contract employee making $30 an hour with no benefits…and realized that this, indeed, was my life purpose. I found great joy in helping others get clarity around what they really wanted and their strengths and passions. (Stay tuned for some great stories in later posts.)
