Have you ever wanted to do something and then scared yourself out of doing it?

That’s what happened to me after attending Jack Canfield’s Breakthrough to Success (BTS) week long program in 2005. After doing some work around life purpose (so glad that I’m living my life purpose) and visioning, we created goals in seven areas of life. In my “Fun and Recreation” goal, I included spending four weeks a year at the beach. Then I immediately went to the “how”, and came up with the idea of creating beach retreat workshops using Jack’s self-development program as a foundation.

I was so excited returning to Dallas and, then, when I found out how expensive it was to rent a huge beachfront house, I scared myself out of doing it. All those fears about how to pay for it and whether anyone would come took over and I didn’t even try. The following year, I returned to Jack’s BTS workshop and had the same goal.

After returning home, I sent an email to 30 women about my “Get Out of Your Own Way” beach retreat and 10 women immediately registered. I realized that I wasn’t the only one wanting to get out of my own way. I added a second beach retreat workshop the following weekend and it filled also. That was 13 years ago and the journey (and joy) continues.

What are you afraid to do? Make a list of things you want to do but are afraid to do. Then restate each fear using the following format:

I want to ______________________, and I scare myself by imagining ______________________.

Can you see that you’re the one creating the fear?

All fear is self-created by imagining some negative outcome in the future.

I challenge you to become an inverse paranoid by imagining that the universe is out to do you good.

At my “Get Out of Your Own Way to Live with Purpose & Passion” beach retreat https://katherinebock.com/get-out-of-your-own-way-workshop/. I will guide you in exercises that will help you to “feel the fear and do it anyway.”
