In an earlier post, I talked about clients who cleared space, both physically and psychically, which resulted in renewed energy and focus.

When you make an agreement to do something, it goes into your present memory bank and takes up an attention unit. We can only pay attention so many things at one time. Each promise, agreement or to-do item takes up an attention unit, leaving fewer and fewer to use to focus on the important tasks that are in front of you right now.

Five months ago I promised to provide a referral for a professional organizer to a friend but didn’t do so until today. I used part of my brain space to remember the commitment—it kept coming up.

The brain doesn’t differentiate between what’s important and what’s not important and the constant reminders to “not forget” occupied psychic space that could have been focused on my more important tasks (like inviting you to attend my January 2020 “Get out of Your Own Way” beach retreat https://katherinebock.com/get-out-of-your-own-way-workshop/.)

Make a list of your incompletions and the steps you’ll take to complete each one. Some of your incompletions could be:

  • Promises not kept, not acknowledged, or not renegotiated
  • Closets overflowing with clothing never worn
  • Disorganized garage
  • Junk drawers
  • Filing left undone
  • Desk surface cluttered or disorganized
  • Wonder why I listed these incompletions?

Create your own list and then take action to complete them. If you want me to hold you accountable, post online and I’ll follow up with you.
